Lights! Camera! Action! Snowdown is just around the corner, and the annual Light Parade is the perfect place for us to kick start our “Get Out the Vote” campaign for the 2024 election year. Come join the League of Women Voters of La Plata County as we march in this year’s parade, beginning at 6pm on Friday, February 2nd.

We’ll carry a banner, all lit up, of course! We ask that you light yourself up (we recommend the small battery-powered light strings) and join us for the walk down Main Street, as we remind people that their vote matters! It’s a great way to put faces and names into the minds of our community. As a bonus, at the end of our walk, we’ll gather in Buckley Park for a hot beverage and some good old-fashioned camaraderie. We think there’s no better way to get to know one another than by doing something fun together and this is sure to be fun!

There are many ways to participate: Walking in the parade, being a host/ess at Buckley Park, or even helping to sponsor the event itself. Expected cost estimate is $250 (entrance fee, materials for our banner, candy to pass on parade route, and hot beverages at the end). Beyond this, if you are super into banner design and fabrication, we welcome your talents! As always, we’re stronger when we do things together!

Please respond to this email, lwvlaplata@gmail.com, to let us know that you’re ready to march or willing to help in some other way with our first event of the year. If you have questions, please reach out to Siggy at the email address above. We need at least 25 people to make this a worthy effort, so let us know as soon as possible (no later than January 15). Don’t be shy! You know you’ve always wanted to march in a parade! 😉

Cheers to stepping out together! Peace Love and Rock the Vote!
