The purpose of the event is to promote educational, recreational, cultural and civic opportunities for youth, and will provide children aged five and above with the experience of participating in the governmental process by making a formal presentation to the La Plata County Commissioners regarding their event or activity and petitioning the County Commissioners for a letter of recognition for their youth or family-oriented educational, recreational, cultural or civic activity.
Other activities will include: meeting with the County Commissioners, participating in mock voting using the County's voting machines, visiting a courtroom and speaking to County Court Judge Martha Minot, touring the County Courthouse, and meeting County Sheriff's Deputies.

Senator Udall will host a town hall at the La Plata County Courthouse in Durango. Doors open at noon or so and they expect a big crowd in a small venue. It is being labeled Energy, but that was done before the health care debate heated up, so the discussion will likely turn to health care.
Due to high interest in Sen.Udall's Town Hall Meeting the County has decided to stream the meeting live on their website. It is hoped that people who will be unable to attend in the meeting room because of space limitations will get the feeling of attending live via webstream. 2010 San Juan Air Quality Forum.
The Mountain Studies Institute partners with the Colorado Department of Public Health, San Juan Basin Health Department, US EPA Region 8, NM Environment Department, Southern Ute Indian Tribe and other agencies to bring together experts on Air Quality to present and discuss air quality conditions in the Four Corners, potential health effects associated with air quality, and future regulation measures. Topics include air toxics, ozone, regional haze, mercury, and more.

*The Fiscal Responsibility Information Committee, the 9-R School Board, and the League of Women Voters of La Plata County cordially invite you to attend an informational presentation on three of the ballot initiatives which will be on the November 2010 ballot: Amendments 60 & 61, and Proposition 101.
Carol Hedges, Senior Fiscal Analyst, Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute, will be the featured speaker. Ms. Hedges is a recognized expert on the effects of Colorado's TABOR amendment. Her current research explores spending and taxation in Colorado in light of fairness, efficiency and adequacy. She most recently was a senior policy advisor for The Bell Policy Center.
The potential impact of these three issues on publicly-funded education entities such as K-12 schools and colleges makes it important that we well understand the implications of the proposed changes to the Colorado Constitution and to state law.
