Additional Voting Information
*Citizens who have registered to vote but who did not vote in the last general election (November 2006) are considered inactive. (A general election is held every 2 years in even years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The entire US House of representatives is elected, some members of the Senate, and, every four years, the President of the United States.)
*Inactive voters will not automatically receive a mail-in ballot for this mail-in election unless they verify their current address with the County Clerk-Recorder at least 29 days prior to Election Day. They can also reactivate their status, get a ballot, and vote in person at the County Clerk-Recorder's office in the Courthouse.
*Registered voters in La Plata County who have moved can update their addresses with the County Clerk or by re-registering with the new address. Note that ballots are not forwarded but you can vote in person at the Courthouse. Voters who move within the 30 day cut-off should contact the County Clerk's office at 970-382-6296 or 6297 for further clarification.
*Citizens who have registered to vote but who did not vote in the last two general elections (November 2006 and November 2004) have been purged from the Colorado voting rolls. A purged voter must re-register to vote in the state of Colorado and La Plata County.
*A new Colorado statute authorizing permanent mail-in ballots for all elections is now in effect. Voters may indicate that they would like to be on the permanent mail-in list when they register or can update previous registration to so indicate. If you would like an application for a permanent mail-in ballot to be mailed directly to you for each election overseen by the La Plata County Election Recorder's Office click permanent mail-in ballot.
